Practical information 2017

On this site we will publish important practical information about the summer courses, 2017.

 

About the courses:

Young string academy: 23. - 28.june for participants born 2003-2006.

All participants will be given individual lessons and will be followed by a teacher from the Nordic colleberation. Henning Kraggerud will lead a chamber orchestra with daily reahearsals. You will also have group reahearsals. Everyone who wants can also play at the student concerts.

Young string academy, solist: 28.june-3.july for participants born 1993-2002.

Young strings academy masterclasses from June 24/25 until June 28th.  

All participants will be given individual lessons and will be followed by a teacher from the Nordic colleberation, as well as the possibility for masterclasses. Berit Værnes and Øyvor Volle will lead a chamber orchestra with daily reahearsals. everyone who wants can play at the student concerts, as well as listening to some festival concerts and individual practise.  

Finishing concerts 2017:

1.period.

June 27th: Final concert for YSA, Valdres folkehøgskole. 18.30.

June 28th: Final concert for participants at the string courses. Valdres folkehøgskole. 11.00 am.

2.period:

July 2: Final concert chamber music. Valdres folkehøgskole. 18.30

July 2: Final concert for YSA solist. Valdres folkehøgskole. 21.00

July 3: Orkesterfest - finishing concert for NOBUS and Beethoven orchestras. Valdres folkemuseum. 12.00.

 

Festivalconcerts:

Participants, parents and siblings who are living at Valdres folkehøgskole have free acess to some of the festival concerts. The bracelet you recieve at check-in, will be you ticket to theese concerts:

We urge you to read the following information about the courses carefully!

All participants under the age of 18 live in Valdres folkehøgskole (Leira) with guardians:

All participants over the age of 18 will be staying at the hotel in Fagernes.  
Participants aged 18 years, according to our rules and Norwegian law, are responsible for themselves, and must make sure to be on time for rehearsals and concerts and otherwise follow our regulations. 

 

Check-in 23/6:

Valdres Folkehøgskole 13.00-15.30

Fagernes Hotel 14.00-15.45

 

Bus transportation from the hotel to Valdres folkehøgskole for the mandatory information meeting at 16.00

The opening concert 23/6 at 1800 in Valdres folkemuseum is free for all participants and guardians. For entrance, use your festival bracelet that you find in your envelope at check-in. Please make sure you always use this bracelet as is gives acess to some concerts as well as to all the meals.

 

There will be transportation to / from Folkehøgskolen - Folkemuseet at 17.15, returning immediately after the concert.

This year's opening concert with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the star violinist Janine Jansen is something to look forward to!

 

Check-in 28/6:

Valdres Folkehøgskole 15.00-17.00

Fagernes Hotel 16.00-17.30

Bus from the hotel to the opening concert and information meeting at 18.00.

 

The opening concert, with some of the course`s great teachers will be at folkehøgskolen at 18.30, immediately followed by a mandatory information meeting at 19.30. After this there will be barbeque with some participants from Valdres summer ballet.

 

Transportation back to the hotel, for participants over 18, at 21.30!

 

The informationmeeting is mandatory for all participants, even if you have attended the course earlier.  

 

Upon registration and check-in, all participants will be handed an envelope with their individual schedule.

 

During the course it is important to keep track of information that are posted outside the dining room at folkehøgskolen, in the lobby at the hotels, or given orally.

 

All participant will be given individual lessons during the course. Please prepare and make sure to bring an extra copy of the piece/pieces you would like to play, for your teacher.

 

Music notes:

We will send the music notes directly to your email. Make sure you print and rehears them before the course. If you have not recieved your notes by May 1st, please send a email to anne.camilla.furre.thommesen@sommersymfoni.no Some of the notes will be poste don our website, so make sure you also check this site.

Our course leaders have a responsibility for all participants' safety and welfare. Helene Sinding-Larsen chares this responsibility with our camp manager Anne Camilla F Thommessen. They also have the following assistens:

We will only distribute music notes by email. We will try to be of help in any way we can, but unfortunately our capacity to handle detail oriented questions for all participants are limited.

 

If you have allergies or other needs that we should be aware of, that you did not write in your registration, please send an email about this to anne.camilla.furre.thommesen@sommersymfoni.no at your earliest convenience.

PLEASE NOTE: There are several participants with strong allergies to nuts. We therefore urge everyone to pay special attention to this by NOT bringing or purchasing food that contain nuts. Such food/products will not be allowed. (Some chips are made with nut oil, and is therefore not allowed. If you are unsure, read the description on the item).

 

Welcome! 

 

What to pack:

Please mark your personal belongings with name and number

 

Musical:

  • Your instrument with all necessary equipment. Please make sure that your instrument is in good condition.
  • All strings: please bring extra strings, harpiks, sordin, og aller helst en ekstra bue, husk også skulderstøtte hvis du bruker det.
  • Music Stand. (with name and number)
  • Solo music notes. Remember a original copy for the accompaniment and one for your teacher.
  • All other orchestra notes (You have to print this and bring them with you, You can not print during the course.)

 

 

Other things to bring:

  • Clothes, remember that the weather in Norway can vary from warm and sunny to rainy and cold in one day.  Check the weather report and pack accordingly.
  • Toiletries
  • Swimwear and extra bath towel. There will be trips to the lake if the weather allows it.
  • If you bring electronic equipment, remember charger.
  • Drinkingbottle
  • Special clothes for the concerts – colorful and summerly
  • Some pocket money
  • Flashlight
  • Valdres has mosquitos, so if you are allergic, bring some repellent. We have first aid kits and equipment for all other minor injuries
  • Sunscreen

 

 

Towels and bedsheets are included in the price.
