Hanna Marie Thiesen is a violinist from Norheimsund in Hardanger, and last spring she completed her master's degree at the Barratt Due Music Institute under the guidance of Geir Inge Lotsberg and Bård Monsen. She also completed her bachelor's degree at Barratt Due, studying with Stephan Barratt-Due and partially at the Royal College of Music in London.
Chamber music is close to her heart, and she has performed in ensembles and as a soloist at events such as the Hardanger Music Festival, the Church Music Festival, the Bergen International Festival, the Kristiansund International Festival, the Ultima Festival, and with the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra.
She also plays as a substitute in several of the Norwegian symphony orchestras and the opera orchestra.
In 2021, she was awarded the Finn Audun Oftedal Memorial Scholarship, presented for the best Norwegian participant in the Princess Astrid International Music Prize. She has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Gunnvor and Sigvart Ellingsen Foundation, the Tom Willhelmsen Foundation scholarship, the Hardanger Foundation artist scholarship, the Dream Scholarship, and the Kvam Herad Cultural Scholarship.
