Ane Elise Lassen began her musical journey with violin and singing at the local music school, but was captivated by the double bass’s deep sound and versatility at the age of 16.
She completed her bachelor’s degree at the Grieg Academy and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama before continuing with a practical-pedagogical education and a performance master’s degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music, studying with Dan Styffe, Marius Flatby, and Håkon Thelin.
Ane is a freelancer based in Oslo and Bergen. She enjoys challenging herself by focusing on a wide range of genres and has worked with jazz, tango, improvisation, contemporary, and classical music. She is a member of a microtonal sinfonietta called Lime, several improvisation-based collectives, and the tango quartet Bardo, in addition to performing with the Arctic Philharmonic, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
She is employed at the Bergen School of Music and envisions her students experiencing mastery, creativity, and making music together. She works to strengthen the double bass community in Norway and sits on the board of the Norwegian Double Bass Club.
