You don't forget a concert with the double bassist Knut Erik Sundquist. It sounds so playfully elegant and beautiful that you sense a performer who takes the music seriously. He was born in 1961 in Tromsø. He studied double bass under the legendary professor Ludwig Streicher in Vienna. After his studies, he made a living both as a solo bassist and as a musician in Europe's most renowned orchestras, including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Berlin, Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, Lucern Festival Orchestra (under Abbado), and others.
At the Festspillene in Nord-Norge in 2007, he had the lead role in Patrick Süskind's play "The Double Bass." It was a success both with the audience and the critics. Knut Erik Sundquist is a great humorist and communicator. He treats his instrument with relaxed virtuosity. He resides in his beloved Northern Norway (Harstad), and he enjoys playing with musicians and artists from entirely different genres than the classical one.
As a result, he feels at home everywhere, whether it's at Carnegie Hall in New York or in a small community hall far north of the Arctic Circle. In 2010, he brought along a whole symphony orchestra and gave a concert to an enthusiastic audience at the Ølhallen in Tromsø! Regardless of where Knut Erik Sundquist may find himself with his bass, you can be sure of two things: applause and encores!
