GNIST international summer course is designed to offer intensive musical education and development opportunities for young, talented musicians.

It focuses on fostering high-level skills through individual instruction, ensemble playing, and specialized courses. Participants in GNIST have the chance to connect with like-minded individuals, engage in challenging musical experiences, and grow their talents in a supportive environment.

The course will feature intensive days with a lot of content, including both individual lessons and ensemble work in larger and smaller groups. We will take into account each participant’s level and experience, creating well-matched groups based on the audition video.

GNIST international summer course has a very limited number of spots and is also open to international participants. 

GNIST translates to spark in english.

Course details

  • Daily private lessons 
  • Daily rehearsals in various ensembles. Chamber music is an integrated part of this course
  • Performance at a course concert 
  • Performance at the final concert with participants from the same course
  • Free access to selected festival concerts, as well as all course concerts
  • The course area offers possibility for activities such as football, chess and swimming

Criterias

  • Instrument: Violin, viola, cello and double bass
  • Processing of application requires application fee to be paid in advance (300 NOK) 
  • Course participation requires the course fee to be paid in full ahead of course period
  • All participants born in 2014 or later MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian agrees that minor tasks may be requested during the course
  • All participants stay at Valdres folkehøgskole
  • All applicants must submit a recording of a self-selected work and a short video in which they present themselves and their motivation for applying. Both videos needs to be included in the application form.
