MITOP (Music in Theory and Practice) is a learning method that integrates performance and theoretical subjects, fostering a mutual understanding between these areas. MITOP gives students a sense of coherence and enrichment across musical disciplines, aiming to develop independent, resourceful musicians equipped with effective strategies and valuable tools.
In MITOP, students engage with music from multiple perspectives. Emphasis is placed on multimodal learning, where material is internalized aurally, visually, cognitively, and tactilely through conducting, solfège, singing, and playing on their primary instrument as well as the piano. The method also helps students establish stimulating frameworks for their creative expression in composition and improvisation.
Over time, MITOP can help students develop an independent ability to carry knowledge and awareness into various performance and creative processes, freeing up time and energy for practice and other creative activities.
