Ann-Helen Moen is a lyric soprano known for her clarity and beauty of tone as well as for the focus of her delivery whether in concert or on the opera stage. She has performed with some of the most distinguished ensembles and companies in the world, from the Bach Collegium Japan and the MDR Symphony Orchestra to the opera houses of Zurich and Hannover.
Ann-Helen is widely recognised as a significant interpreter of Mozart, and has sung Donna Anna, Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Pamina and First Lady (The Magic Flute) at The Norwegian Opera & Ballet in Oslo. Her repertoire also includes Sandrina (La Finta Giardiniera), Donna Elvira, (Don Giovanni) and the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro). Ann-Helen started her career as a company member at the Opera Graz, and has appeared at the Hannover Staatsoper, the Zurich Opera, the Danish National Opera, the Théâtre Paris Villette, Trieste and at companies in Germany, Sweden and Ireland.
Aside from Mozart, she has sung the title role in Handel’s Semele, Almirena
(Rinaldo) and Dorinda (Orlando) , Michaela in Bizet’s Carmen, Tatjana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the title role in Madama Butterly, Antonia (Hoffmann’s Tales), Ann Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Mimi in his La bohème. She has created a number of roles from scratch and taken part in world premieres in Europe and the United States.
Ann-Helen is a sought-after concert artist and enjoys a particularly close relationship with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, with which she has recorded and toured extensively. She recently appeared as a soloist with the orchestra at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam under its chief conductor Edward Gardner. She has sung repertoire from Bach to Korngold with all the major Scandinavian orchestras and with the Oslo Philharmonic, the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig and with the Bach Collegium Japan.
Conductors with whom Anna-Helen has collaborated include Masaaki Suzuki, Rinaldo Alessandrini, William Christie, Harry Christophers, Sir Andrew Davis, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Philippe Jordan, Kristjan Järvi, Andrew Litton, Susanna Mälkki and Juanjo Mena.
Ann-Helen is an experienced broadcaster and appears regularly on state television and radio in Denmark, Norway and beyond. On New Year’s Eve 2006 she appeared as Solveig on NRK’s televised performance of Grieg’s Peer Gynt from the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. She has recorded for Chandos, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi and Simax.
Ann-Helen was born in Molde, Norway. She studied at the Grieg Academy in Bergen and at the Opera Academy in Copenhagen. She is a laureate of Norway's most prestigious singing prize, the Esso Award.
