Lasse Thoresen is a prominent Norwegian composer known for influencing an entire generation of composition students at the Norwegian Academy of Music and for his extensive contribution to the academic world through lectures, research, and publications.

He has won several national and international awards, including the Nordisk Råds musikkpris (2010) and the Spellemannprisen (1998).

Many sources of inspiration can be found in Thoresen's music; from Norwegian folk music to French spectralism and the Bahá'í faith. His works range from solo and chamber music to large orchestral works.

He has also been central to the development of sound sonology, and his book "Emergent Musical Forms: Aural Explorations" was published in 2015 after decades of research in the field. Thoresen was also honored with the King's fortjenstmedalje in 2019 for his contribution to the Norwegian cultural community.
