At the early age of 16, German percussionist Magdalena Meitzner made her recording debut with chamber music on Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Radio). Since then, she has toured both as a soloist and with ensembles such as Hidden Mother, Kroumata, Norrbotten NEO, and Curious Chamber Players to events in China, Peru, Russia, Finland, and across Europe, performing at festivals such as Ruhrtriennale and Ultraschall in Germany, Huddersfield in the UK, aterteater and transart in Italy, and Båstad Chamber Music Festival, Sound of Stockholm, Kalvfestivalen, Malmö Live, and Vinterfest. Magdalena's solo repertoire includes pieces written for her by composers such as Christofer Elgh, Alexandra Nilsson, Maria Lithell Flyg, and Matthew Petersson.
Magdalena often collaborates on various interdisciplinary projects involving dance, speech, music theatre, and performance, such as Fedra/Hippolytos in 2019 at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. Her chamber opera "Mimì" - commissioned by KammerOperaKompaniet - premiered in November 2021 in Stockholm.
Magdalena's duo Hidden Mother - with Ulrik Nilsson - experiments with staged music and is well-known at European avant-garde festivals. In 2018/19, Hidden Mother was ensemble-in-residence for the Contemporary Music concert series "Min Granne Tonsättaren," and in 2021 at the Kalvfestivalen in Sweden. Alongside the brilliant flutist Camilla Hoitenga, she forms the duo Wave Dash~. They debuted in 2019 with pieces written for the duo by Anne LeBaron, Christofer Elgh, and Lisa Streich. In 2020, the duo was invited to be ensemble-in-residence at the Robb Composers Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they premiered eight more pieces written for them, including works by Lei Liang and Peter Gilbert.
In 2024, Magdalena will premiere "Opacities" by Alexandra Nilsson - a solo for glass and crystal objects - and duets by André Chini and Frej Wedlund written for her new duo with Mårten Landström, piano.
Magdalena was featured on Swedish radio, P2, in a portrait called "Magdalena Meitzner och Symbolernas Musik" (Magdalena and the Music of Symbols), and in 2021/2022, she received a working grant from The Swedish Arts Grants Council. She has held masterclasses for percussionists and composers at institutions such as the University of New Mexico (USA), the Royal College of Music (Stockholm, Sweden), Cornell University (New York, USA), and Ballet (Estonia).
